Child protection

The Child Protection Policy Statement of School Aid Romania is:
'It is the policy of School Aid Romania to safeguard the welfare of the young people in its care by protecting them from physical, sexual and emotional harm.'

The full child protection Policy including its procedures will be available from the participating schools or from the School Aid Romania office. An Anti-sectarianism policy is also available. School Aid Romania considers that the pupils and staff of the participating schools can make a contribution to alleviate the needs of children and young people in Romania. It is concerned to avoid the pitfalls of clumsy aid-giving which has characterised many aid programmes in the past. Consequently it is expected that pupils will treat all people in Romania whatever their ethnic or class status with equal respect. All donations of aid should therefore be handled in such a way as to ensure the dignity of both the recipient and the donor. School Aid Romania gives, as far as possible, that which is requested by the recipient group - we should not presume to know what is best for them.

Aid is given primarily in the form of institution to institution. The aid is given by the group leader on behalf of 'School Aid Romania'. In some circumstances, groups of schools or individual schools also provide aid of various types as you will see from the information provided about the various schools.

Individual giving should only be done with great sensitivity, if at all.

Pupils are requested not to give gifts of money or goods to people on the streets. The leader and the staff will offer advice to group members before and during the visit. Remember that there are many schools involved in the project and that you are a small part of a great team.
